Choose to Remember: the Story behind Black Mists

Black Mists began with a story brainstorming session between me and one of my best friends. She and I invented character ideas and the start of a plot. I loved the concept, and continued to adapt and grow it, until it became the now-published book. Black Mists is my first mystery novel, and gave me a chance to explore the differences between writing a mystery and writing a fantasy.

One theme weaved into this tale is memory: as the main character enters the story having no memory of who she is, where she is, or why someone is making attempts on her life. The more the tale progresses, the more this theme is played on – but I won’t give any spoilers as to how!

I’ve been told the ending is surprising, and I hope I’ve created an engaging, suspenseful mystery in this book.

Black Mists also contains various “Easter eggs” hinting at adventures to come: in particular, Part 3 brings the reader into a location and a mythology to be explored in later books. And though it’s my first mystery, it won’t be my last, as I have another series in the works.

Right now in October, I’m giving away free copies of Black Mists on GoodReads!
